Rory Paul

About Me

My name is Rory and I'm from Uxbridge, Massachusetts. I am currently attending Stonehill College as a Senior Computer Science Major with an Economics Minor. My anticipated graduation date is May 2025. I am very passionate about everything that has to do with Computer Science. I am the Co-President of Stonehill’s student chapter of the ACM and a registered member with the national ACM organization. I have completed a couple personal projects with one of those being this website! This website was part of a competition run by the Stonehill ACM club to make our own personal website. My most recent work experience is as a Software Engineer Intern working for General Dynamics Mission Systems in Dedham, MA.

Outside of Computer science, I love to stay active! In my free time you'll be able to find my either weight lifting, rock climbing, or surfing. As I’m passionate about fitness I’m always on the lookout for new healthy recipes to try out, so if you got some good ones let me know! I’m also a die-hard New England Patriots fan!

-Social Media Web Application - May 2023

• Collaborated with two peers to create a music release catalogue web application
• Used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to design the frontend of the project
• Developed the back end of the appligitation with Python and the Flask framework
• Employed an Oracle database on the back end of the application

-Personal Website - October 2022

• Developed a personal website as part of a club competition
• Employed and experimented with both HTML and CSS to develop website
• Won first place in competition

Work Experience

-Software Engineer Intern | General Dynamics Mission Systems | Dedham, MA : May 2024-August 2024

• Contributed to a team developing a cyber security web application in a full stack development role
• Completed assigned Jira issues in a timely manner
• Independently developed standalone feature and demonstrated for senior staff members
• Developed front end code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Learned and experimented with JQuery to enhance the UI design
• Architected back end code in the flask framework for Python which leveraged a PostgreSQL database
• Learned and utilized the SQLAlchemy and alembic library to interact with the datababse
• Implemented asynchronous tasks with the Celery library's job queue
• Employed test driven development with the creation of unit tests

-IT Intern | Abacus Health Solutions | Cranston, RI : May 2023-August 2023

• Learned and then experimented with writing code in C# and SQL
• Leveraged the C# Entity Framework to convert an SQL stored procedure into a console application
• Learned the fundamentals of APIs and how to make API calls within C#
• Wrote Unit Tests using MSTest for API controllers to ensure high quality code
